THE BOLTS AND NUTCRACKER (BALLETBOTICUS)

Field Report 07 finds Broboticus on the studio floor, and he has opinions about his form. Two versions of the character occupy the canvas — smaller on the left, larger on the right — both holding a single-leg tree pose with arms raised, fingers spread, completely earnest. The magenta crackle-texture background reads like the inside of a transformer mid-surge. There's no irony in his posture. Broboticus does not half-commit. Whether he's fishing the Arkansas in the dead of night or attempting a grand battement in a purple void, the effort is the same: total.
